Notetaker API vs Recall AI

Audio & video recording

Records meetings with audio and video in a single file. Captures participant videos and screen sharing when supported by the meeting platform. Recordings are delivered through a secure URL that stays active for sixty minutes and remain available for up to fourteen days through the Notetaker API. Designed for meeting playback and for powering downstream analysis workflows.

Provides audio and video capture with high quality output across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Recordings are available through the Recall API with support for real time processing and flexible storage options.

Transcription

Provides AI powered transcription and speaker diarization through AssemblyAI. Returns structured JSON or text output with timestamps and speaker attribution. Transcription is handled directly through Nylas and does not require any third party transcription services or additional costs.

Provides meeting transcription through its meeting bot when enabled. Developers can also choose to use an external transcription service. Both paths add separate cost and require additional setup. Returns a raw transcript with timestamps and speaker labels.

Calendar sync

Connects through the Nylas Calendar API so Notetaker follows the same events your product already creates for users. When meetings are booked, moved, or cancelled, the bot stays in sync automatically, keeping recording aligned with the schedule your users see in your app.

Connects to users calendars to see which meetings are coming up and schedule bots for them. Teams still define and maintain their own rules for which events to record and how to handle rescheduled, cancelled, or overlapping meetings.

Summaries & Action Items

Automatically generates concise meeting summaries and clear follow ups with owners and next steps. Delivers ready made outputs that teams can immediately act on, instead of rewatching recordings or reading long transcripts.

Does not provide summaries or action items. Developers must generate these outputs themselves using their own models or external services.

Designed for ease of use with a straightforward API, sandbox access for testing, and extensive documentation. Supports quick integration with sample requests and examples for rapid prototyping.

Provides an API focused on meeting capture and transcription. Developers must turn those transcripts into product features such as summaries, next steps, and other meeting views, whether they build that in-house or connect additional vendors, which means more setup, maintenance, and cost.

Ad-hoc & scheduled joins

Supports both ad-hoc joins (within ~60 seconds) and scheduled joins with precise timing via a managed queue. Users can CRUD scheduled Notetakers via API, offering robust control over meeting participation.

Primarily excels at ad-hoc meeting joins across major platforms, with scheduling capabilities less prominent, potentially requiring manual intervention or external scheduling tools.

Unified platform coverage

Lives on the same Nylas platform you already use for email, calendar, and scheduling. One integration, one auth flow, and one set of webhooks cover messages, events, and meeting results, so you can add new workflows without wiring a new vendor each time.

Focuses only on meeting capture. Teams still need separate providers or in house systems for email, calendar, and scheduling, which means extra integrations, auth flows, and security reviews whenever they want those channels to work together.
